internship two, day three

a new semester, a new internship.

for the next two months i will be working with eric boneske and so far i am already loving this gig. from the moment i walked in the door, eric was so welcoming and ready to help me learn. i am beyond excited about the following eight weeks!

eric is also a wedding photographer here in town, but my first shoot with him was for a new regional magazine:

we spent the morning at cameron art museum to get shots for the magazine and i had a chance to get to know quinn cook, the magazine's publisher. as always, i am thrilled to meet people who are so passionate about and dedicated to what they do, and quinn is no exception. i can't wait for the first issue of her magazine to come out!

both quinn and eric were kind enough to let me take some shots of my own, as well as some behind the scene photos to document the morning. multiple locations within the museum were used for this shoot, but all of these images are from the cafe in the museum.

internship, day twenty-four

big day today!

ashlea kosikowski and local news station WECT worked with susie to set up a boudoir shoot and interview for the evening news to promote susie's boudoir business. this type of photography is something susie is beyond passionate about, so it's fantastic that her work was highlighted in such a major way...

erin, our model, was a great sport, dressing down for the cameras and the photo shoot. i don't think i'd ever have the nerve to do what she did - she did a great job!

susie worked her magic to put erin at ease in front of the camera, and ashlea did the same to put everyone else at ease in front of the video camera.

here are a few behind the scenes photos from the day...

assignment: lumen prints

  supplies needed:
-old b&w photo paper
-flowers (or any plant life)
-a piece of glass
-the sun
-time

the easiest image you could ever create! arrange flowers on b&w paper and cover with glass. using the sun as your light source, expose the paper (could take anywhere from 30 minutes to 3 hours). there's no real way to tell if the paper has "cooked" long enough, but once you think it's good, remove the glass and flowers and place the paper in a light safe box so it doesn't continue receiving light. go inside.

for the purposes of our class assignment, we scanned the original prints using a flatbed scanner to later print using an inkjet printer. (for a lasting effect, there is a process to keep the image you've created.
i've read about it but haven't tried it yet, so i won't go into that) once scanned, we were also asked to play around with these images in photoshop and print our final version to share with the class. no other instructions were given and we were free to do whatever we wanted. since i'm still in the infant stages of understanding photoshop, this was a good exercise to practice different actions i already know, as well as learning other features within the program.

layout: behind the scenes...

for my design class, we had an assignment to create a layout:
2 pages, 5-8 images, one unifying theme.

i chose to create a hypothetical magazine editorial on a movie, which i based on a story i wrote last semester. the images for the layout would be stills from the movie.

my models were ashton and jason = i couldn't have asked for better people to work with! they were patient, up for anything and had smiles on their faces during the entire 11 hour shoot.

also, big thanks to anna and michael for their assistance - having extra sets of hands on set, extra knowledge of photography and our own in house dj to keep the mood calm was great.  i owe you guys BIG time!

i'll write more about the story once i post the final layout, but here are some behind the scenes to see a sneak peek...
